Meahaad and Horse Island...

The Beach at Maehaad is split into two by the sand bar that runs over to Koh Ma, walkable at all times except high waters. Located up on the west coast of Koh Phangan, Maehaad is a five minute drive from Haad Salad or Chaloklum. The Beach is wide in places and shaded by the coconut palms before the coconut groves start to sweep up the hills. The water can be only waist deep during certain times of the year, mainly April to September but there are high tidal exceptions around full moons.

The bay attracts people to its beach due to the it being one of the best snorkeling reefs on Koh Phangan. To the left of the sand bar when facing Koh Ma is where many fish congregate in schools. It is possible to see barracuda, king mackerel, trevally. stingrays, eels, squid and lots of clown nimo fish amongst others. There is also a dive operator on the beach, Haad Yoa Divers, which have a base hut in Maehaad, doing a beach dive here is highly recommended reason alone to come to Maehaad. Snorkeling mask's and gear are available to rent at serveral places along the beach. Like most beaches on Koh Phangan there is no life guard stationed on the beach or swimming flags. Look out for coral when wading into the clear blue waters, there are very little currents here only further offshore past Maehaad Island and even there they are not very strong and only circle around this part of the Island.

The Island of Koh Ma is only separated from Maehaad by a short sandbar that except at high tide is partially above water and so its possible to walk to Koh Ma. Consideration would be taken when enjoying the walk over the sandbar during mid day times, long exposure to the hot sun can be harmful.

There is little night life in Maehaad except during high season in January or February, the bay offers a quite peacefully holiday.

The Mae Haad Beach Royal Orchid Resort can be found in this bay and comes recommended for lunch if on a day trip to Maehaad.
