There has been rapid growth in bungalow operations on Koh Phangan over the last few years to meet the demand with ever increasing visitor numbers on the Island. The cross sectional look at the type of people coming to Phangan shows the Island has opened its doors to a wider range of tourists and vactionists. Backpackers still arive in there droves and revelleirs cram the island once a month around the Full Moon but the Island is now recieving families and a more cosmopolitian people.

The fall of 2004 brought Koh Phangans first Island magazine with Phangan Explorer, the publication was well put together, edited and printed to high standard and will only help in marketing Phangan into a high end destination. March 2005 the island was introduced to two more publication guides with Phangan.info becoming a indespencable reference guide for Koh Phangan.

This year Koh Phangan will continue to develop its infrastructure and a new resivoir is planed for the Baan Tai area. Water is essential for construction works and foward planning will keep the fast growing Thong Sala to Baan Tai strip up to speed.

Thong Sala will benifit from two large project due for completion in the first half of this year. The Thong Sala shopping plaza (above picture) will add a new flavor to the shopping scene in the town, built to a high standard it aims to attract quality retailers. Opposite the Lipipong Distribution depot a new fresh food market is going up that will also have some air conditioned retail units.

New Zoning Laws may be intoduced this year that will classify parts of the Island that will become National Park. Most of Koh Phangan is covered in dense tropical rainforest and supports a myraid of animal and plant life. Upon trekking into the mountains wild orchids can be found that are very rare along with monkeys, deer and wild pigs.
