The area of Thaan Sadet on the East coast of Koh Phangan has become a well known and revered place as it has been visited on several occasions by previous Kings of Thailand. In 1888 King Rama V,visited the beach and surrounding area leaving his inscriptions on a large granite rock, that remains today and is well worth a visit.
The first trips by the royals to Koh Phangan was made possible by the new steam ships of the time which made the ride more comfortable and quicker. King Chulalornkorn was the first to visit Koh Phangan and Thaan Sadet, trekking into the jungle to find the cool waterfalls, the present king has also visited the area.
